Resonant Scanning NI DAQ Configuration

For new installations, MBF recommends the use of vDAQ. vDAQ is a powerful all-in-one microscope controller with a stream lined user experience, that supports a wider feature set than traditional NI hardware.

ScanImage supports the NI PXIe platform for data acquisition. This platform consists of an NI PXI Chassis (compatible with PXI, PXI Express, and hybrid modules) and several extension cards. The chassis connects to the computer via a MXI link.

ScanImage uses the NI FlexRIO platform to achieve the high sampling speeds required for resonant scanning. A FlexRIO device consists of an PXIe FPGA board and an adapter module, which provides the analog frontend. The following modules are supported:

Note

An NI X-series board features one single ‘timing engine’ for all analog outputs on the board. This means that all analog outputs on the board share the same start trigger and sample clock. Therefore, it is not possible to combine devices that require different triggers and clocks on the same DAQ board. Consequently, scanners, fastZ and beam devices each require their own DAQ board.
